Abstract:
Quality professional learning of staff in an organisation brings a huge effect on the effectiveness of the organisation. Such as in school professional development of teachers has enormous effects on performance of students. The key objective of this research study is to find out the teachers view on effective professional development in the practice of their teaching.
The study focuses a primary school, in Maldives. In order to conduct the study a qualitative case study approach is used and six teachers were selected randomly from the target school. The instrument was used to collect data was the semi-structured interviews. The interviews audio recorded and transcribed and saved in my computer. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data.
Findings of the study showed that through professional development teachers get many opportunists to improve their knowledge and skills. It also had shown that teacher's face some challenges. Moreover, importance of need analysis before planning effective professional development sessions was emphasized by all the participants.
This study provides insight on teachers views about professional development. Finding of this research could be useful for school principal and professional development coordinator to enhance effective professional development.
