Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify and analyse factors that influence middle level managers to oppose
towards organisational change. The study was conducted in ABC Enterprise which is a local company
operated in Maldives. Even though change is continuous and inevitable, the resistance from employees
have led to a low success rate. Many of the change efforts initiated have been delayed or not implemented
as desired by the change initiating leaders due to heightened resistance from employees.
The study has focused on the main variables that are believed to be the main reasons which increase
resistance towards organisational change among middle level managers. The key findings of the study
demonstrate negative responses from employees, job insecurity, fear, loss of control and lack of
transparency as the most apparent causes that increase resistance towards organisational change
amongst middle level managers. Furthermore, in order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the
organisation, the study found that it is compulsory for the higher management or change initiating leaders
to improve the current condition of the company through employee participation, effective
communication and education.
