ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to explore the obstacles of using smartboard in teaching secondary grades. The study was a qualitative case study and the data collected for this study were collected by interviewing four teachers who teach to grade ten students. The four teachers are selected through purposeful sampling method. A face to face, one to one interview based on a semi-structured questionnaire was used to understand the teachers' perspectives and feelings towards the use of smart board in their teaching. The data was analyzed by coding the data and categories in the data were identified which formed the themes. The findings from the study identified three themes which were motivational, cognitive and environmental factors. Environmental factors such as technical problems, lack of support from the school management, inadequate professional development, lack of supervision found to be the major obstacles of using smart board in teaching. the lack of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge was also found to be a barrier in using smartboard in the classroom. Furthermore, teachers' self-efficacy, belief and attitude were some of the factors that inhibits teachers' motivation in using smartboard effectively in teaching.
