Abstract:
The objective of this study was to explore the perception of novice teachers on the supervision process carried out in the school and to identify the impact of supervision novice teachers' career development.
The research adopted a qualitative study, with semi-structured interviews was to explore to examine this topic. A government school in Hulhumale'. was selected for the study. Five novice teachers from different grades were involved in the interview.
The findings of this study indicate that novice teachers perceive supervision process on a constructive aspect, and there is a positive impact on novice teachers career development. However, teachers note that there are some drawbacks to the supervision process. Which includes giving instructive feedback, include more number of observations. Another critical aspect highlighted by the participants is the negative impact on their career due to the supervision process. It is believed that awareness programs, workshops and professional development programs will have a positive impact to the career development of novice teachers. There other issues that were brought to the surface which relate to the career development of the novice teachers. This includes the relationship between the teachers as well relationship between the teachers and supervisor.
It is believed the more help to the novice teachers get the better they become. Clearly seen from this study that all the teachers believe that it will have a positive impact on their career from supervision process if carried properly.
To conclude, this study has indicated the recommendations or eliminating and drawbacks. It also has mentioned above, together with the limitations identified in this study and the direction for further research in Maldivian context in a more systematic approach.
