Abstract: Teacher attrition is on the rise and Maldivian education system is in need to address the issue as soon as possible to minimize the effect. One of the main reason for the increased teacher attrition rate is the experiences that the teacher face during the first years of teaching and it was that if the teachers faces pleasant experiences then they tend to retain longer in the profession. This research examined the experiences and perspectives of novice teachers on the realities of the teaching profession. This study consisted of an in-depth interview which was conducted among 8 teachers who belonged to two of the schools of the capital city of the Maldives. The findings of the study indicated that the experiences of the novices can be improved by a proper support system, giving more awareness programs to the teachers from the ministry and by making the professional development programs more relevant to teachers.
