Abstract:
The core purpose of this case study is to identify secondary students' perception towards homework in one of the schools in Maldives. In addition, it is aimed to identify strategies to that can be used to address the issues relating to students towards homework
It has been reviewed in the literature about the perceptions of other researchers, parents, teachers and specifically students towards different aspects of homework.
Two methods of data collections were used from which a structured interview was the primary source of data collection. The other method was through open-ended questionnaire which was used to triangulate the data from interview.6 students were interviewed and 20 students were selected for answering the questionnaire using purposive sampling. Questions for interview as well as questionnaire were focused on the information revealed from the literature and the theoretical framework which was based on expectancy value theory.
From the findings, it was discovered that students have a high level of self-efficacy and self-concept. They believed that homework was an important component for their academic achievement and they believed that it has benefits and drawbacks too. But most of them disliked homework and they have been completing homework without much intrinsic motivation. The reasons for this have been revealed by them through this study.
