Abstract:
Teacher motivation plays a crucial role in the promotion of effective learning in the classroom. The factors that teacher motivation needs to be given special attention in order for the betterment of the educational sector. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between teacher motivation needs to be given special attention in order for the betterment of the educational sector. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between teacher motivation and students' academic performance of students of Addu City, Maldives. This study also focusses on finding whether there is a significant difference between teachers motivation in term of general as well as teaching experience. Furthermore, the research also focused whether the level of teacher motivation and factors (both intrinsic and extrinsic) had a significant relationship or not. Teacher motivation is referred as the desire of teachers to perform better. In order to perform better teachers must both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated. The study was a quantitative cross sectional survey including 131 teachers from two school of Addu City, Maldives. The data was collected by means of modified teachers motivational scale and it was compared with the mock exam results of the students. Analysis of the result using SSPS showed that there is no significant relationship between teacher motivation and students' academic performance. On the other hand, it was found that there was a strong correlation between teacher motivation and teacher intrinsic, extrinsic factors. Out of two demographic variables studies: gender and teacher experience. It was found that teacher motivation had no significant difference with teaching experience, but teacher had a significant difference between the two groups of gender: male and female. Past researchers have found that there is a strong positive correlation between teacher motivation and students' academic performance. Also from the past researchers it is evident that there exists a difference between teacher motivation and teaching experience. However, this research does not prove in the existence of these relationships, therefore it must be further analysed in school as well country level.
