Abstract

Information Communication technologies like interactive whiteboards introduced into the educational systems have shown to increase students' academic achievement through motivation and providing students with more authentic environment. Due to this educational institutes around the world including Maldives, have been investing their effort to integrate this technology in their teaching and learning process. However, this process is not that easy as the integration of [CT like IWB has been affected by many factors of challenges. The current study was done in a selected school from Male' to identify the teacher-level and school-level factors which affects the successful integration of ICT with interactive whiteboard in classroom teaching. A qualitative research method was employed to find the factors which affects integration of 1CT with IWB in teaching in School 'X'. Out of 103 secondary teachers from School 'X', five teachers were selected based on purposive sampling. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with these five teachers to collect data for the study. Pilot testing was also done to identify the validity and reliability of the research instrument. The data collected was transcribed and used for data analysis. The data analysis was done by familiarizing the transcripts, identifying the significant statements and coding the followed by categorizing and theme formation from the codes. The study revealed that teacher-level factors like, teacher attitude towards technology, their ICT competence level, teaching experience level, their age hinders the successful integration of 1CT with IWB in classroom teaching in School ' X'. One school-level, school's ICT related policies/plans/regulations, leadership support, availability and accessibility of hardware and software, technical support, professional development, teacher workload and insufficient class time was found to affect successful integration of ICT with 1WB in classroom teaching in School 'X'.
