Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to explore and investigate the motivational elements and the elements that hinder motivation of secondary school students, for the identification of proper strategies to minimize the influence of the identified elements.
Motivation plays a vital role in helping students to accomplish their tasks. Motivation is one crucial element that if possessed properly can help students in their studies and excel at life. Despite the importance of motivation there are various elements that boost the motivation of students and hinder motivation. These elements are related to students, teachers, parents and the school management. Secondary students face various challenges during their schooling time. One such major element is the issue of motivation. These issues or elements that hinder or increase motivation can come in many forms as mentioned earlier.
This study aims to explore these elements that hinder motivation in order to find strategies to minimize the effects of these problems. The study focuses on data collected from three different secondary schools from Male'. Special focus is given on students, teachers, parents and senior management members of the targeted school. Through the identification of these problems it is strongly believed that a better learning environment can be created in the schools. Such a learning environment will not only help students in their studies but will also help students, teachers and parents to deal with their problems.
