Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine whether there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance among enlisted soldiers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Male' Area. A sample of 179 enlisted soldiers across ranks was obtained using quota sampling approach based on the rank hierarchy pyramid of the organization. A quantitative survey method was employed using questionnaire as a measurement tool SPSS version 20 was used for data analysis. The core findings of the correlation statistics indicated that there is a statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance among enlisted soldiers of MNDF Male' Area. Moreover, additional findings proved that there is no significant difference in average emotional intelligence across ranks. However, the findings indicated that there is a significant difference in average emotional intelligence across leadership ratings. No significant relationship was observed between time in occupation and average emotional intelligence.
