Abstract
In the year 2010, Maldives established a professional development policy in order to upgrade the teachers. However, this became challenging due to the inauguration of the new curriculum in 2015 which included training programs for the teachers. The effectiveness of the training programs is a challenge. Therefore, this study was designed to explore the teacher's perception on the effectiveness training programs for key stage two in the new curriculum. A qualitative research was carried out to explore this topic and six teachers from key stage 2(2 teachers from each grade 4, 5 &G) were purposively selected from a primary school. Data was collected by conducting a semi-structured interview. Results demonstrated that teacher's attitude and their learning style as individual factors that affect their perception towards the effectiveness of professional programs. Teachers also identified duration, content, collaboration and active participation, planning and support, resource and feedback as factors which affect their perception towards the effectiveness of professional programs.
