Challenges in implementing electronic medical record (EMR) system in the Maldives / Mohamed Shiham

Abstraction

Electronic Medical Record system has been using since the 1960s. (Organization, 2004) Since than Electronic Medical Record is using all over the globe. The owners and managers of the hospitals are facing some issues in the implementation of electronic medical record system in the Maldives. They are looking for stable strategy which can be used for the implementation of electronic medical cord system. The descriptive phenomenological research I conducted here is to find the successful strategies used by the hospital's leaders to implement electronic record system in their concern health care centers with their experiences. The theoretical framework used for this study is diffusion of innovative theory which helps me to shape the research study properly. I used face to face interview as my data collection method. A thematic approach is used as data analysis to search interview transcripts to find themes. Financial issues, Technology related issues, and Hunan related issues are the main themes or strategies identified. By exploring these strategies gives an understanding of hospitals owners and managers insight consideration for the implementation of electronic medical record system. The findings in this research study may help to the community to engage the electronic medical record system which might contribute to the positive social change to them. The outcome of this study is design to other medical care centers to have a further investigation on the same topic towards the new successful implementation strategies.
