Abstract

Assessment has the ability to change both learning and teaching since it is essentially connected to motivation and learning. Society has redefined the part of schools. They aren't simply a place to sort and rank students by their accomplishment. At present, school is a place where all students end up plainly skillful, and meet pre-specified measures without leaving behind. With expanding force, policy makers are focusing to assessment as the power instrument that will constrain schools to satisfy this new part (Stiggins, 2005). The expanded consideration being paid to standards and their assessment has made another chance to bolster learning and enhance classroom practices (Davies, Arbuckle and Bonneau, 2015). As assessment for learning (AFL) is used to bolster and inform learning, by making student self - confident towards achieving success (Stiggins, 2001).

In the Maldives, assessment had been a tool used to rank students where marks arc given. Now with the implementation of' the National Curriculum Framework came assessment for learning. Assessment has the ability to change both learning and teaching as it IS so indispensably connected to motivation and learning. As assessment for learning is a procedure utilized by instructors and understudies as a feature of guideline that gives input to modify progressing educating and figuring out how to enhance understudies' accomplishment (Jones, 2005). Since assessment for learning is its initial stage there are many challenges that teachers face in using assessment for learning. The aim of the study is to find the challenges that teachers of key stage 2 face in using assessment for learning in their classroom. A semi structured interview which lasted about six hours was conducted for data collection. Based on the Lathered data, the result indicated that there are many obstacles that teachers face in using assessment for learning. Based on these findings recommendations have been discussed. The result of the study will benefit people who are working in the education sector to overcome the challenges.
