Abstract
This dissertation is about a qualitative study that investigated the causes of & motivation among among Eighth grade learners of English as a second language in "Star School" (riot the real name). In order to gather the data for this research study, semi-structured interviews were conducted for live teachers and five students. The result of this study exposed the main demotivating factors such as lack of self-confidence, difficult concept, the knowledge about learning concept, language influence, lack of facilities, and negative attitudes towards learning English language. Overall results of this study show that student demotivation is a significant problem in this particular school which needs immediate attention by the Maldivian educational stakeholders. This study recommends the school and educational stakeholders to make the learners and other stakeholders aware enough about the learning content and the importance of learning English language. In addition, it also suggests the school to get proper facilities to teach English language effectively. And the teachers are recommended to apply cooperative learning strategy in order to overcome from learners demotivation
