Abstract

This case study is conducted for Agora, Maldives. Agora is one of the supermarket chains located in the centre of the Male' city. The objective of this research is to identify turnover rates at Agora, identify the factors which influence them and to propose a retention framework.

This research is done using multi-methods; a mix of both qualitative and quantitative method where data is collected in two different groups; group one consists of sales floor staffs for whom a close ended survey was conducted and group two consists of personnel interviews with open ended questions conducted with the managers of the outlets.

Results indicate high turnover rate was recorded throughout the year. Withdrawal behavior were minimum, employees prefer intrinsic methods of motivation, current motivation level among employees are low, and main factors influencing to leave includes insufficient pay, family/personal reasons, and lack of career advancement. Finally, recommendation include following the retention strategies proposed.
