Executive Summary

With the rapid development of information technology and data innovation, most data management practices are advancing electronically. This advancement has thriven the traditional data management practices adapted in the healthcare facilities as well. Hence, the use of electronic health (e-Health) primes to the application of e-Health administration frameworks. The electronic infrastructure has been broadly utilized globally by various healthcare facilitators, clinicians, patients, and health insurance providers. The major objectives of these stakeholders are creating, managing and accessing health records of patients universally. In addition, these data can be shared among various health facilities in order to review the medical history of the patients, enabling proper and accurate treatments. Furthermore, effective data storage and accessibility is allowed; correspondingly reducing operational and maintenance costs. This research is based on the perception of patients and healthcare facilitators on the importance of implementing an EHR system for a dispersed country like Maldives. Additionally, he research would also highlight on the challenges encountered by technical authorities due to the nature of country.
