Abstract
Title: Effectiveness of Strategies Used to Motivate Employees and Improve Their Performance and Productivity in the Private Sector of Maldives.
Objective: The main objective of the study to find out the effectiveness of the strategies used to motivate employees and to conclude the best strategy.
Study Design: A descriptive study was conducted to identify the effectiveness of the strategies and what is the best strategy to improve the performance and productivity of employees. To collect data, a self-administered questionnaire was given to the employees of Private sector companies and conducted interviews with the senior managers of the Companies.
Method: Data was collected from three Companies from Private Sector of Maldives, 40 employees from each company were asked to fill the questionnaires while 03 senior managers from each companies were interviewed. Sample size is 129 staffs.
Results: Being democratic, recognition, and high pay are the most effective strategies. Still, training and performance appraisal was also considered effective by majority of the employee sample while being autocratic is the least effective strategy. Finally, it was concluded that training is the best strategy after consideration of views of both employees and employers.
Recommendation: Research could be improved by making some questions of questionnaire more direct and getting opinion of employers about the effectiveness individual strategies.
