Abstract

Most of the Maldivian public sector organization is going through profound restructuring in the face of environmental constraints that force the organization to become more efficient and effective. However, measuring performance is considered to be a particularly controversial management practice anywhere it is being practiced, the successful implementation of performance management practices faces numerous challenges and obstacles.
This Research was conducted to analyze the impact of performance management on employee performance in a Maldives government organization, Ministry of Finance and Treasury. The participant of this study are employees from different departments of Ministry of Finance and Treasury. Hence, to understand the problem researcher did an exploratory research, having a decent talk with the employees of MOFT. This exploratory research determined that the workforce of MOFT are not aware of the fact that proper performance management practices will enhance the performance level of the employee and employers of MOFT. Therefore, the problem of this study is, can Ministry of finance and treasury of Maldives improve their employee's performance level by developing proper performance management practices? The researcher has created three objectives for this study with reference to the research problem. Therefore, the first two secondary objectives, the researcher focused on obtaining a deeper theoretical and empirical understanding on the topic of performance management and employee performance.
The hypothesis which was created from the literature review is stating that "there is a positive relationship between performance management and employee performance". Moreover, the study was conducted through inductive approach. By collecting data from the employees who are currently working in the organization. Therefore, the sample size selected for this research was 70 employees from different departments which the questionnaire was distributed randomly to each department of the organization. After collecting the data statistical software SPSS version 20 was used to analyze the data. Ultimately results from the quantitative analysis states that performance management has a positive impact on employee performance.
