Abstract
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has acquired keen interest in recent years due to the advancement of globalization and international business which have resulted more business complexity for new demands for higher transparency and corporate citizenship. CSR has gained public interest in the developed nations for a long time. The business organizations in Asian region with an increasing number of emerging economies is also adopting CSR including Maldives. Hence, it is important to understand the direction of companies in relate of CSR in Maldives. The main objective of this study was to investigate the perceptions of managers towards CSR in Maldives, the CSR practices by the companies and motives to adopt the CSR practices by Maldivian companies.
This study used a qualitative case study method approach with data collection through semi-structured interview and document analyses. Purposively selected sample of managers were interviewed in depth and thematic data analysis was done to identify the managers perception on CSR.
The research indicates that the chosen company has effective CSR practices and policies. However, managers do not have clear understanding of those CSR policies of the companies. This research further identified the reasons that the company adopt CSR. It was found the motives of implementation of CSR are innovation, attracting employees and customers, sustainability and culture.
