Abstract:
Title: Truth behind paradise: overcrowding, unmanageable financial constraints and violence.
Objective: the objective of this research is to inquire in to the issues of overcrowding, unmanageable financial constraints and violence, and identify what causes these issues and analyse what led for these issues to be created.
Study design: the study was conducted to identify the effect of the issues, with targeted participants between 50-100 with the help of a quantitative structured questionnaire provided to random participants through online mediums.
Method: data for the study was collected from random Maldivian citizens. The questionnaire was designated with the help of google forms. Participants were provided with a link to the questionnaire and requested to fill them. There was no pressure for them to complete the questionnaire and requested to fill them. There was no pressure for them to complete the questionnaire if they did not want to. They were provided with the choice of withdrawing from the study independently.
Results: as it was a quantitative research, result for each question of the questionnaire was demonstrated on graphical charts. It was derived from the result that, overcrowding, financial constraints and violence are linked to each other. Certain factors were obtained from the findings that explained how the financial situations were managed at households, and how the congested living conditions led to overcrowding and creating violence.
Recommendation: the study design involved certain limitations that prevented from demonstrating the best result. Recommendations of how these limitations including suggestions for use of both qualitative and quantitative data collection method and the suggestions for using a big sample size was provided.
