Abstract:
Flexible working arrangement is a well-accepted concept in the developed countries around the globe and among human resource experts. Standard working systems are being replaced with this form of working to increase productivity of the employees and the organizations.
Different empirical studies have been conducted to study the effects of flexible working arrangements on the organization. Researchers have attempted to study the different aspects of flexible working arrangement.
This research focuses on identifying the perception of introducing flexible working arrangements in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). It also identifies what kind of advantages the organization would achieve by having a flexible working arrangement system in place. To find a solution to the deteriorating performance of IGMH and improve productivity was the major concern of the study.
Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital is the only tertiary care referral hospital in Maldives. IGMH is the face of healthcare of the entire country and is responsible to cater health services to the entire population of Maldives. Being a multispecialty hospital in the country, IGMH manages a diverse workforce.
To carry out this study, a random sample was selected from the nurses working in IGMH. To study the area of interest, a questionnaire was distributed and the data collected was quantified to analyze. Using quantitative methodology to study the research areas, it was revealed that employees working at IGMH are in need for a flexible way of working and they believe that it would have a positive impact on their work-life balance and productivity of the organization
