Abstract:
Parental involvement in school activities is a vital factor that effects the motivation and expectation of the parents that has a positive effect on the academic achievement of the students.
Therefore this is a research designed and carried out to explore the effect of parental involvement in school activities, on the academic achievement of the students. It was conducted to find out if there is a positive effect on the students' academic achievements when their parents get actively involved in the school activities like participating in the parent-teacher conferences and also discussing with the children about their academic work.
A quantitative method was used, as the purpose of the research was to see if there is a correlation between the independent variable (iv): parental involvement and the dependent variable (dv): academic achievement of the students, the research designed used was a correlational design (design used to find out the relationship between two or more variables).
The sample taken was a random sample of about 32% from the total population of 460 students in grade 6 and 7 of the sampled school.
The data of the research was collected using the instruments: the aggregate average grade of the sampled students (to measure achievements) and a survey questionnaire for the sampled students, to check how much their parents get involved in activities conducted by the school and also how much the parents discuss about the academic work with the children and with their teachers (to measure the parental involvement). The data collected was then tabulated and processed and then analyzed.
The data analysis was considered to identify if there is a correlation between the parental involvement and the academic achievements of the students. The results showed that there is a positive correlation among the parental involvement and the academic achievement of the students. Therefore this information will be used to educate the parents on the importance of the parental involvement in students' school activities and the positive effect it has on the academic achievements of the students.
