Abstract:
This study is a qualitative case study done in a secondary school of Maldives. The purpose of this study is to find out the importance of an effective teacher induction program in secondary schools of Maldives. The study focused on to see the teacher's perspective of whether the current induction program is carried out in an appropriate way or not and how it affects the performance and motivation of the teachers. The sample for this study is 5 teachers who have joined the school within the last three years. The data analysis technique used is "content analysis". The findings of the study indicate that the current induction program in the school is not appropriate and it does not improve the new teacher's motivation to work in the school. Rather it discourages and disappoints the new teachers during their first days in the teaching carrier. The study also indicated the importance for an orientation program to the new teachers when they come to the school at the first day. Also it was found that a mentor is to be attached with every new teacher for the first few days till the new teachers become familiar with the school.
