Abstract:
Studies on Distributed leadership indicated that Distributed leadership is essential to successful school development and improvement of teaching and learning. Secondary schools in the Maldives depend on principals as their leaders. Since Maldives is now facing the challenges of reforms in secondary education, principals and other staff need to acquire the current knowledge of leadership theory and research to give them the theoretical understandings of leadership approaches that are possible to make their schools more successful. The aim of this study is to find out how distributed leadership utilized by the principal in a Maldivian Secondary School affect the school achievement. It also investigated their leadership practices in their school contexts, including how they engage their teachers in leadership activities. The participants of this study are a Principal, Deputy Principal, and four leading teachers, and two teachers from a secondary school in Male' city if Maldives. The school is one of the best schools in Male' city. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with the principals and the teachers.
