Summary:

The story of Bodu Thakurufaan is one every Maldivian knows. He is the country's national hero whose exploits and life are commemorated in the Maldives on National Day every year.

Born Mohamed, the second son of chied of Utheem Island in a remote northern atoll, he became leader of a small group of patriots who, in 1573, ousted the Portuguese occupiers of the Maldives and restored freedom and independence to the islanders.

This novel is based on the re-telling of stories about Mohamed Thakurufaan, passed down by word of mouth for four hundred years. Blending fact with legend, Royston Ellis has created a vibrant work of historical fiction that captures the spirit of a man touched by destiny. The novel brings the legend alive; it is an inspiring story of the courage, conviction and determination that are the hallmarks of this great hero.
