Abstract:
The teaching and learning process of Maldivian schools are supervised by the leading teachers (supervisors) mainly. It was also revealed that some areas of supervision need improvement. Teachers and supervisors required to know the model of supervision which is followed at the school. Subject coordination need to be conducted in such a way that all aspects of the key competencies are included. Latest techniques and strategies needed to be practiced in the classroom. Professional development programmes must be designed to address the needs of all the teachers. A need analysis for staff development programmes needed to be carried out before planning the programmes. Different varieties of professional development programmes must be conducted for the staff in order to develop them and become effective teachers.
