Abstract
This study, which has used a quantitative approach aimed to determine the relationship between teacher motivation and job satisfaction on performance of the chosen island community school. A sample of 32 teachers was selected from the population of 35 teachers working in the school at present, by using simple random sampling technique. Self-administered questionnaires were used for the collection of data and the data obtained were analyzed using multiple statistical procedures in SPSS. The results of the study indicated that overall there is no relationship between teacher motivation and job satisfaction. However, when specific factors of motivation and job satisfaction were analyzed, a significant positive relationship was observed between pay and autonomy. Additionally, a considerable negative relationship was proven between recognition and teacher evaluation. The findings also revealed that even thought there is no variation in teacher motivation and job satisfaction among gender, it exists among teaching experience groups and teaching levels. There was difference among teachers with different teaching groups and teaching levels regarding their motivation. Yet, this difference was not observed when their job satisfaction was considered. The Spearman correlation coefficient calculated for overall effect of teacher motivation and job satisfaction on performance of students showed that there is a very strong relationship between teacher motivation and job satisfaction on the performance of the teacher, hence on the performance of the students. Therefore it is suggested to conduct motivational programmes, have discussions regarding the concerns of teachers and observe teacher performance more closely to improve teacher performance which influences the performance of students
