Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate if there is an effect of teaching methodology used by the teachers on the behavior of the students. A qualitative case study, with semi-structures in-depth interviews was employed to examine this topic. A government school in Male' was selected as the case under investigation with 7 primary teachers each one teaching a different subject in the primary syllabus. The maximum variation technique was used to select the sample of this study. The findings of this case study indicates that there is a positive impact on the use of innovative teaching methodology in class on the students. However, teachers note that there are some draw backs to the use of innovative teaching methodology, which includes, personal barriers, professional development as well as lack of facilities and resources in good conditions. It is clearly seen from this study that all the teachers believe that there is positive difference in students' behavior when innovative teaching methodologies are used in classroom teaching. It is also agreed by all the teachers that the amount of learning that takes place is more when the students are engaged in hands on activities and group or peer work, which is again part of innovative teaching methods. To conclude, this study has indicated the recommendations for eliminating the drawbacks mentioned above, together with the limitations identified in this study and the direction for further research in Maldivian context
