Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine teachers' perceptions of current school based professional development practices in a primary school. The population sample consisted of eight teachers in a primary school of Fuvahmulah. Qualitative research method was used to collect and analyse the data. The instrument used in this study was a semi structured interview guide which aimed to seek the participants' perceptions of school based professional development. The result could be used by school principal and policy makers to enhance the effectiveness of school based professional development. The data obtained from the teachers revealed that school based professional development sessions have enhanced their knowledge, skills, classroom practices, and motivation which have positively impacted students learning. The importance of conducting need analysis before planning the professional development session was highlighted by all the participants.
