Abstract:
The main purpose of this research was to identify the opportunities for the teachers who would be redundant as a result of Teacher Registration Policy in the Republic of Maldives. Major concern of this research is that what will be the opportunities for around 200 teachers who are to be redundant as a result of Teacher Registration Policy. In addition to this, this will help to find out the readiness of these teachers in opting for different alternatives rather than being redundant. Hence the policy makers can formulate policies to attend the issues of teacher redundancy. The research was done by quantitative methodology using convenient sampling which was collected all over the Maldivian schools. A questionnaire was send to schools, which was filled only by those teachers who would be redundant as the result of Teacher Registration Policy. The research has shown that there are teacher who opt for professional development, studying for just a diploma, moving to an administrative fob and retiring with a financial package as a result of Teacher Registration Policy. It has also shown that there was neither a significant relation nor a significant difference in opting for professional development, studying just for a diploma, moving to an administrative job and retiring with a financial package based on their gender, field experience and ongoing academic programme as the result of Teacher Registration Policy.
