Abstract:
The aim of this research is to study the teacher characteristics which prevent misbehavior in classroom through students and teachers perspective. A total of 88 students and 18 teachers from grade 8 of a secondary school in Male (the capital island of Maldives) were chosen as respondents for this study. Respondents were chosen through random sampling. A quantitative survey method using questionnaire was employed to obtain the data. Data was analyzed with SPSS. The findings showed there is no significant difference between teachers and student perception of the importance of ethical, disciplining and interpersonal characteristics of teacher but there was a significant difference between the perceptions of pedagogical characteristics of teacher in preventing misbehavior. The correlation between the present teacher characteristics and the level of behavior was highly positive.
