Abstract:
This study is about finding the perception of human resource managers about the possible impact of introducing a competency based remuneration framework on employee productivity. In Maldives, the concept of the term 'competency' in relation to the remuneration is fairly a new term. With increasing the number of workforce who possess specific skills or competencies and increasing number of employment opportunities, it is worth to identify the possibility of introducing a competency based remuneration framework and understanding the effect of this on employee productivity. Interviews with HR managers were decided since they would be the people with great experience in the field and people with good knowledge about their employees. Data was collected for this qualitative research with the use of a questionnaire and via in-depth interviews and these data were analyzed and conclusions were arrived to answer the research questions thus achieving the research objective. From the data analyzed, it was found that HR managers believe that introducing such a framework will boost the employee productivity.
