Abstract:
The Civil Service Commission (CSC) being the central organization of managing human resource in civil service of Maldives is striving to become an exemplary employer that respects and values the unique characteristics, skills, backgrounds, ways of working and lifestyles of every individual member of staff. In order to attract highly competent personnel for civil service jobs and create and ideal future work place and high quality work force in Civil Service Commission, it has to consider and take long tern proactive approach regarding the issues arising from work-life imbalance. The underlying issues resulting from work-life imbalance causes unimaginable costs and negative impact on employees personal and social life such as marital stress, divorce, relationship failures, family dysfunction etc. in Maldives, work-life balance is not a very common concept for Resource Planning and whole HR management process and should be brought to the attention of government policy makers. The primary objective of this study is to find out the impacts of work-life imbalance. This study is based on primary sources of data collected from 20 sample respondents (selected through stratified random sampling) through questionnaire (qualitative data) and from another 5 (selected through simple random sampling) sample respondents through interview (qualitative data) findings of this study shows employees of CSC find their jobs are stressful and the quality of their work and personal lives are affected immensely and the major reason for this is unmanageable workload, lack of motivation, and negative management practices. Due to this the quality of service is affected together with increased labour turnover, absenteeism, and lack of motivation
